Home automation cost in India: what drives the price
There is no single price for home automation in India, because the cost follows what the home should do and how many rooms and devices it covers. This guide explains the factors, how wired KNX and wireless systems differ, and how to get quotes you can compare.
What decides the cost of home automation
Home automation is priced by what the home should do and how many rooms and devices it covers, so two homes of the same size can cost very different amounts. Morion Automation is a distributor: it supplies the devices and quotes them for your integrator's device list. This page explains the factors so quotes can be compared.
- Scope. Lighting only, or lighting, blinds, climate, intercom, audio and scenes. Each function adds devices and programming.
- Number of circuits and rooms. Actuators are sized by channels, so more circuits mean more channels. Read MDT KNX actuators.
- The controls people touch. Plastic push-buttons, glass keypads, designer keypads or touch panels. This is the part visitors notice, and finish moves the total. See MDT glass push-buttons.
- Wired or wireless. A wired KNX system needs the cable in the walls; wireless suits retrofits.
- Integrations. Video door phone, tablet panels, multiroom audio, ventilation and voice control each add products. See the video door phone guide and the KNX to Matter guide.
- Electrical work and programming. Cabling, distribution boards and the ETS programming and commissioning by a KNX-certified integrator.
- Taxes. GST on devices and services.
Wired KNX or wireless: how the cost is shaped
| System | How cost behaves | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| Wired KNX | A bus cable is laid to every device, ideally before plastering in a new build. | Whole homes and buildings, new builds and major renovations. |
| Wireless (Wi-Fi, Zigbee) | Devices connect over Wi-Fi or Zigbee, so no new bus cable is needed. | Retrofits, rental flats and a few rooms. |
| Mixed | KNX for lighting, shading and climate; wireless for a few add-ons. Bridges link the two. | Homes that start with KNX and add devices later. |

Home automation cost per square foot
A price per square foot is only a rough guide, because the same area can be one open hall or twelve rooms with blinds, climate and scenes. A better method is to list what each room should do, get a quote from an integrator for that list, and divide by the built-up area to compare options. Treat any per-square-foot rate quoted without a room list with caution.
How to get a quote you can compare
- List what each room should do. Lights, blinds, climate, scenes, intercom and keypads.
- Ask for the device list with each quote. Quotes compare only when they cover the same functions.
- Ask what is included. Devices, cabling, distribution boards, programming, commissioning and training.
- Ask about expansion. How many spare channels and what it costs to add a room later.
- Send Morion the list. We quote the devices.
KNX home automation cost in India
A KNX system is quoted from its device list. See MDT KNX price in India for how an MDT quote is built, and the KNX guide for India for how a KNX project is planned.
