Video door phone in India: a guide for villas and developers

A video door phone shows who is at the gate, lets you speak to them and releases the lock. For a villa or a building the choices are IP or 2-wire cabling, how people get in, and how the call reaches residents. This guide covers them using Fasttel, whose range Morion Automation distributes in India.

What a video door phone is

A video door phone is an outdoor station at the gate or door with a camera, a button or keypad and a lock release, plus the places where a ring is answered: an indoor monitor, a phone app or both. For a villa it is the first thing a visitor touches, so the outdoor station's materials and finish matter as much as the electronics. Morion Automation is the authorised Fasttel distributor in India.

The IP kits include an IP outdoor station and, in the monitor kits, a 7-inch or 10-inch Android indoor monitor and a PoE switch. Four app licences are included, and extra licences are sold separately2. For a building with no spare network cabling, a converter (FTPOE2W) turns existing 2-wire or coax runs into a network connection.

How visitors and residents get in

The Wizard Prestige offers five ways in at the door: facial recognition, QR codes, NFC and RFID tags, PIN codes of 2 to 8 digits, and Bluetooth, which opens the door when a paired phone is within about 1 to 2 metres1. The facial recognition stores up to 10,000 faces on the station, encrypted and local1. Residents can answer a ring in the Fasttelphone app on iOS or Android over Wi-Fi or 4G and open the door from anywhere.

Indoor stations and the app

The Commander is a 10-inch Android touchscreen indoor station, and the FT600W is a 7-inch monitor using Wi-Fi and PoE. The Fasttelphone app controls relays and cameras and creates temporary QR access codes from anywhere2.

Connecting to home automation

Fasttel connects to building automation through SIP compatibility, relay outputs and the Commander, which runs Android so an automation app can be installed on it. It works with KNX, Crestron, Control4, Qbus, Niko and Teletask. SIP needs the optional FT600UPGR licence. See the Fasttel page and our KNX guide.

What to check before you choose a video door phone

  1. Cabling. New network cable (IP) or existing two wires (2-wire).
  2. Entrances and homes. One villa gate, or a building up to 999 apartments. The range scales from a plug-and-play doorbell upward.
  3. Access methods. Face, QR code, tag, PIN, Bluetooth or phone, and which ones the station supports.
  4. Indoor side. A 7-inch or 10-inch monitor in the hallway, the app on phones, or both.
  5. Integration. Whether it should talk to KNX or another system, and whether SIP is needed.
  6. Finish. Bronze or aluminium, flush or surface mounted, and a colour that suits the gate and facade.

What drives the price

The price follows the number of outdoor stations and homes, the indoor monitors, the station finish, the app licences and any SIP licence. Morion quotes Fasttel for the project and does not publish prices.

Video door phone questions, answered

What is a video door phone?

A video door phone is an outdoor station with a camera and a button or keypad, linked to indoor monitors, a phone app or both, so you can see and speak to a visitor and release the door.

What is the difference between IP and 2-wire video door phones?

IP kits run over one network cable with PoE. 2-wire kits reuse two existing wires for power, audio and video, which suits renovations.

Which Fasttel video door phone suits a villa?

The Wizard Prestige is the station for homes that want a solid bronze or brushed aluminium finish and five ways in. The Wizard Entry is a plug-and-play IP doorbell. Send us the plans and we will suggest a kit.

Can I open the door from my phone?

Yes. The Fasttelphone app on iOS and Android answers a ring and opens the door over Wi-Fi or 4G.

What does a video door phone cost in India?

It depends on the stations, indoor monitors, finish and licences, so Morion quotes each project. Send the plans or the number of homes to info@morion.in.
