Comparison
MDT vs ABB vs Schneider Electric: comparing KNX brands for Indian projects
MDT, ABB and Schneider Electric all make certified KNX devices, and because KNX is an open standard their products work together in the same installation. The choice between them is about range, design, focus and how each is supplied and supported in India. Morion Automation is the authorised Indian distributor for MDT, so we say where we have an interest, and we stick to what each manufacturer publishes.

MDT Technologies
MDT develops and produces KNX devices in Engelskirchen, Germany, and has worked only on KNX since 2009. Its range covers the whole system: switching, dimming, blind and heating actuators; presence, temperature and weather sensors; Elevio push-buttons for standard frames, Lucilio glass push-buttons and Aurelio touch displays; and Coresio system devices. MDT products carry a 3-year warranty. In India, Morion Automation supplies MDT from local stock, with KNX-certified technical support and integrator training. More on MDT in India.
ABB i-bus KNX
ABB's KNX range, ABB i-bus KNX, is organised by function: power supply and system devices, inputs and outputs, shading and lighting control, presence detection, HVAC, logic and time control, visualisation, energy management, safety and security, and guest room management. ABB also offers several user-interface design lines, including Busch-priOn, ABB tacteo and ABB Tenton.
Schneider Electric SpaceLogic KNX
Schneider Electric's KNX range is SpaceLogic KNX. Schneider describes it as covering lighting, blinds, HVAC and energy management, combining connected devices, edge control and cloud services. The range includes bus power supplies, master and extension actuator modules, a DALI gateway and push-button interfaces.
Can you mix them?
Yes. Certified KNX devices from any manufacturer work together, and integrators often combine them: MDT actuators in the panel, Tense keypads on the wall and a 1Home server for Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa. Pick each part for what it does best, and make sure your integrator keeps the ETS project file for the whole installation.
How to choose
- Range depth for the job. Check that the actuator and sensor types you need exist in the range, with the channel counts that suit your panel.
- Keypad design. Keypads are what clients see every day; compare finishes and sizes early.
- Local stock and support. Ask where stock is held in India, the lead times, and who handles warranty claims and technical questions.
- Integrator familiarity. Your integrator's experience with a range matters as much as the range itself.
